'Spider-Man 4’ Villain Might Be 'Morbius The Living Vampire,' Director Sam Raimi Hints

MorbiusWith all of the hype surrounding the latest "Iron Man 2” casting and villain rumors, it's easy to forget that there's another, highly-anticipated Marvel franchise that's in the process of picking new villains and actors, too -- that, of course, being "Spider-Man 4."

The last time "Spider-Man" director Sam Raimi talked about the project was way back in October of '08, when the fanboy-acclaimed director said he hoped to shoot two "Spider-Man" flicks back-to-back and wanted The Lizard as a villain.

However, in a recent Empire magazine story, Raimi indicates that The Lizard might be taking a backseat as Raimi considers returning to his horror film roots in the next installment of the "Spider-Man" film franchise.

"I like it in the Marvel comics when Spider-Man fights Morbius," said Raimi. "He's really cool. A vampire! I like that combination of superhero plus supernatural."

While that's not a confirmation that Marvel's living vampire will be the heavy in the next "Spider-Man" film, it is a rather...interesting choice should Raimi proceed with that line of thinking.

Dr. Michael Morbius -- a Spidey mainstay since the early 1970s -- was a man who, through scientific experiments with vampire bats, gains the powers of a vampire. As other websites have already mentioned, Morbius' origin mirrors that of The Lizard's, leaving open speculation that the two could be causing headaches for Spider-Man in the next film.

What do you think, readers? Would you like to see Morbius as the next villain in the "Spider-Man" franchise, or is there another baddie worthy of a throw-down with wall-crawler? We wanna hear your thoughts in the comments.
