BREAKING: 'Watchmen' Release Date To Be Determined By Judge, Fox & Warner Bros. Agree

'Watchmen'Okay, "Watchmen" fans -- mark your calendars for January 20, because it looks like that's "D-Day" for the final decision on whether the film will be released on its original premiere date of March 6.

The L.A. Times is reporting today that lawyers for 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros. have come to an agreement to allow U.S. District Judge Gary A. Feess to decide if Warner Bros. should be allowed to release "Watchmen" this spring as planned, therefore eschewing a potentially lengthy jury trial that would most likely cause the film to be delayed even further.

We have been covering the "Watchmen" legal proceedings here at Splash Page extensively since Fox's initial "watchmen" filing made headlines back in August 2008, and while the case regarding the highly-anticipated film remains unresolved, this news offers fans eagerly awaiting the film's debut some hope that it could get a release date set in stone.

In a statement released today by Fox, the studio said, "We are gratified by the recognition of our rights in the judge's order, which speaks for itself."

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. had this to say in a statement also released today, "We will continue to pursue all of our legal options to defeat Fox's meritless claims and remain confident that we will ultimately prevail."
