ShockTillYouDrop.com gets the scoop today with the announcement that “Kung Fu Panda” director John Stevenson has been pegged to direct the live-action version of Morrison and Vertigo Comics’ “We3.” And despite the fact that Stevenson’s most recent film can only be described as kid- and family-friendly fare, Murphy is making it clear that “We3” will not be in that camp.
“We’re doing it as an R-rating,” said Murphy. “It’s not going to be cutesy. There’s killer rabbits and stuff. We’re in the process right now of trying to figure out where we’re going to make it.”
Yet despite this news, Murphy states that the film still has plenty of hoops to jump through, thanks in part to the new direction of the studio attached to the production, New Line Cinema.
“The new New Line doesn’t want to do these kinds of movies,” said Murphy. “We have two really good prospects. [Producer] Susan [Montford] was able to get this film going just based on the treatment before the comic so we’ve been on this a while.”
