From the moment we first got a glimpse of Heath Ledger in "The Dark Knight," moviegoers across the board knew they were watching something both special and tragic. And regardless of whether you consider him to be your favorite portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime, one thing's certain -- Ledger's performance definitely deserves recognition from The Academy.
Not surprisingly, Warner Bros. has hoisted special attention on Ledger in the hopes that the actor will receive a posthumous nomination with their recently unveiled "For Your Consideration" ads, running in Variety. Not stopping there, the studio is also hoping to further the cause by suggesting "The Dark Knight" be considered as a "Best Picture" candidate -- which would be a triumph for comics-based films, as the closest one has come to a major award thus far has been William Hurt's "Best Supporting Actor" nod, and a "Best Adapted Screenplay" nomination for "A History of Violence" in 2006.
After the jump, check out the two ads in full -- and we'd love to hear your take on whether "The Dark Knight" should be considered as a contender for Oscar glory.
Do you think "The Dark Knight" or Heath Ledger's chances at getting Oscar recognition are good? Does either deserve the hype? Talk about it in the comments.
