Photos of "Desperate Housewives" actress Eva Longoria leaving the Marvel Comics offices this weekend with a pile of "Avengers" issues in hand have sparked big-time buzz around the comics industry, with many sites speculating that she's researching a role in the upcoming "Avengers" film.
Flawed Hollywood posted the photos of Longoria over the weekend, and the rumor mill has been running full-speed ever since. The most popular theory making the rounds is that Longoria is up for the role of Janet van Dyne, otherwise known as the flying, shrinking and stinging hero called The Wasp.
While the presence of characters like The Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man and several upcoming Marvel Studios' projects such as Ant-Man and Thor has been openly discussed for "The Avengers," the female members of the superteam remain a bit of a mystery. The Wasp was one of The Avengers' original members (and the only female member) when Marvel first introduced the team back in 1963, but the reimagined "Ultimate" versions of many of their characters have often been cited as the source for its feature film projects. In the "Ultimate" version of The Avengers, The Wasp is joined by several other female characters on the team, including Black Widow and The Scarlet Witch.
As FH points out, "The Avengers" is scheduled for release in 2011, just after the run of "Desperate Housewives" comes to an end.
So what do you think, readers? Would Eva Longoria make a good Wasp? Do you think she'd be better suited to portray one of the other characters mentioned above? And on that note, which Avengers lineup would you like to see in the film?
