Tom Cruise And Sam Raimi Wake Up To Ed Brubaker's 'Sleeper'

'Sleeper'Ed Brubaker's breakout hit "Sleeper" has now joined the ranks of comic series getting the Hollywood treatment, thanks in part to the team-up of none other than Sam Raimi and Tom Cruise.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cruise is "loosely attached" to star in what Warner Bros. hopes will be an all-new franchise, with Raimi on board as producer. The story also reports that, hot on the heels of the recent "Watchmen" legal fiasco, the studio plans to make sure all the contracts and rights are in order before proceeding with production.

"Sleeper" -- created by white-hot comic writer Ed Brubaker with art by Sean Phillips -- ran from 2003-2005 as two, 12-issue seasons from DC's Wildstorm imprint. The story followed Holden Carver, a covert operative who, after fusing himself with a mysterious alien artifact, became impervious to pain. He is later contracted to infiltrate a criminal organization and is faced with numerous perils, including falling in love with a sexy criminal mastermind known as Miss Misery.
