Katy Perry Hugs Mr. Burns, Sings 'The 39 Days Of Christmas' On 'The Simpsons'

As noted last week, Katy Perry has become a near-permanent fixture on television as of late. She was a featured performer on the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show last week, then took the stage for the "Grammy Nominations Live! Concert" (where she also got nominated for a handful of awards, including Album of the Year for Teenage Dream). On Sunday night (December 5), Perry was not only one of the highlights of the "VH1 Divas Salute the Troops" show (which also featured the likes of Nicki Minaj, Paramore's Hayley Williams, Keri Hilson and Grace Potter, among others), but she was also a special guest on the Christmas-themed episode of "The Simpsons."

Matt Groening's long-running animated show has had a long history with Christmas episodes (in fact, its very first full-length presentation was Christmas-themed), and this time around "The Simpsons" decided to break up their Christmas special into three segments (not unlike the much-beloved "Treehouse of Horror" series of Halloween shows). Perry appeared in the final entry, which was pretty odd even by "The Simpsons" standards. The family all somehow morphed into puppets and did a very "The Muppet Show"-esque series of riffs on Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie packing to go on vacation. There's an appearance by Moe (who they've hired as a caretaker and does a pretty funny Cookie Monster gag) as well as Mr. Burns (who tries to thwart the Simpsons' travel plans). In the end, Perry shows up (she's real, not a puppet) to hang out with boyfriend Moe and hugs her way into Mr. Burns heart.

The episode ended with a rousing rendition of "The 39 Days of Christmas" (which including items like "coopers cooping" and "something something"). All told, it was a hit-and-miss episode with a couple of big laughs (all the Muppet in-jokes really worked well), and Perry's presence was delightfully strange (her dress was especially surreal, as it was a bright red with the Simpson family's faces on it).
