Moving copies of albums, winning awards and selling out concerts is no big thing for Taylor Swift, as she has been doing those things for years. But to truly elevate from the level of big-selling star to true pop sensation requires a bit of diversification. To join the likes of the Britneys, Beyoncés and Madonnas of the world, you have to have a secondary art (in most cases, that ends up being movie roles) as well as a number of merchandising options (a clothing line, hair care products, a series of gyms). Swift will be taking one step closer to that level when she debuts her new fragrance, which is set to be available in fall 2011.
Elizabeth Arden announced yesterday that they had inked a deal with Swift to develop the scent, which does not yet have a title (though we'll put the suggestion of "Fairy Tale" out there right now). "I have always loved how fragrance can shape a memory, the way certain scents remind you of events and people that are imprinted in your thoughts," Swift said in the press release announcing the fragrance deal. "Lately I've been having fun experimenting with combining some of my favorite scents, so I'm really excited about working with Elizabeth Arden to develop my own unique fragrance."
Swift joins a number of musicians who have recently conquered the fragrance universe, including Spears ("Fantasy"), Fergie ("Outspoken"), Jessica Simpson ("Fancy") and Beyoncé ("Heat"). But the reigning scent queen is none other than Mariah Carey, who has a number of fragrances that carry her name (including "Forever" and the recently-launched "M").
