The road to Lollapalooza is different for every band. For Against Me!, it involved a red eye flight, no sleep and very little food. The band just wrapped up a tour opening for Silversun Pickups (and we mean just — they played a show at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles on Friday night). After walking off stage, they headed straight for the airport and hopped on an all night flight so they could land in Chicago at six o'clock this morning and make their way onto the Lollapalooza grounds at Chicago's Grant Park.
Perhaps they were still running on adrenaline, but you could never tell that the men of Against Me! were feeling anything less than 100 percent. They revealed to us their upcoming itinerary, which will allow them one day off and then a trip to Europe for a series of festivals across the Atlantic. For them, it'll be a smooth transition.
"For a while, the European festivals had a leg up on the American ones as far as having their s--- together," bassist Andrew Seward told MTV News. "But Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo have caught up."
As far as the comparisons go, there is one thing that Lollapalooza has over any of the European festivals. "The American festivals have the bathroom situation figured out a bit better," frontman Tom Gabel said.
The band promised that despite their utter exhaustion, they planned to deliver. And they did just that, as they tore through a killer set (highlighted by the title track from their latest album White Crosses). "This has been f---ing phenomenal," Gabel said from the stage. He was not wrong.
