When Kemp isn't helping to keep Rihanna centered, he plays center field for the Los Angeles Dodgers (and plays it well, too — dude has the highest batting average on the team and also has 11 home runs and 33 RBI). Rihanna has spent the past year reinventing herself following the fallout of her last relationship with singer Chris Brown. It has been a successful transition, as he latest album Rated R has spawned a handful of huge singles (including "Hard," "Rude Boy" and the current hit "Rockstar 101") and has put Rihanna at the forefront of modern R&B.
Still, getting there was a tough road. "A year ago, I was very confused," she said. "Because he was my best friend. All of a sudden, one night changed our whole lives — not only our friendship, but our lives. I wanted to wake up one day and just not have that pain anymore. I wanted to be with him again or get over him — it was either-or. I just didn't want to feel the pain, the confusion."
She also talked about the sparse black-and-white art work of Rated R. "I wanted pictures that represented strength and fearlessness but still femininity — a strong woman who can be vulnerable," she said. "Every woman is made up of vulnerability and strength; no matter what race you are, no matter what you've been through in your life."
