Amidst all the excitement over the debut of Lady Gaga's "Alejandro" video, there was also a video premiere from another 2010 summer songs contender. Paramore (whose singer Hayley Williams sings the chorus on B.o.B's "Airplanes," which continues to tear up the Billboard chart) unveiled the new clip for "Careful," the latest single from their 2009 album Brand New Eyes. Following the cinematic heft of the excellent videos "Brick by Boring Brick" and especially "The Only Exception," "Careful" takes a much more stripped-down approach and indulges in one of the greatest music video genres: The "on the road" video.
"Careful" goes behind the scenes with the band as they travel the world on tour and takes place in a number of exotic locations (there's a lovely shot of the Eiffel Tower in Paris). There are plenty of performance shots but just as many clips of the group rehearsing during sound check, moving through airports, greeting fans, messing around during photo shoots and goofing around in dressing rooms. It also pulls back the curtain on a handful of really intimate band moments, like the construction of a set list or the contemplative seconds in between rehearsal takes. But perhaps the greatest moment in the clip is also (theoretically) the quietest: A pre-show huddle between the five members of the band (just like Pearl Jam did back in the day). It's a great little bonding moment between a killer band who continue to evolve as a unit.
Paramore will get the opportunity to capture a lot more on-the-road moments in the coming months, as they'll head out as the headliner of the Honda Civic Tour starting at the end of July. They'll be joined by Tegan & Sara, New Found Glory and Kadawatha for a run that will take them across North America for the remainder of the summer.
