Wiz Khalifa And Curren$y Roll Hard For Our ‘First Date’

A few months ago, MTV News production assistants Rya Backer and Steven Roberts realized that their devotion to chasing stories was seriously getting in the way of their love lives. That’s why they dreamed up “First Date,” a regular feature that allows them to get up close and personal to some of our favorite hot new artists.

Pill never called me back, Suckers and I hit a rough patch and Friendly Fires didn’t love me for me, so I’m moving on. A few weeks ago, I took Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y to a classy happening at Bowlmor Lanes. Not to speak for them, but I think it went swimmingly (or in keeping with the date’s theme, it was a real strike).

We went to Bowlmor because none of us had gone bowling in the new millennium (though their skills made that hard to believe). We waxed poetic about their friendship, fashion and a certain strain of flora. I don’t know if the feeling was mutual, but I had the best time. They were hilarious gentlemen, and their mixtape How Fly is a testament to their friendship and their ability to work as a team. They also tweet at each other regularly, and you owe it to yourself to follow their hilarious trains of thought @realwizkhalifa and @currensy_spitta.

Wiz Khalifa hails from Pittsburgh, where my best friend called home for four years (hi, Marta!) and Ian Williams (my ultimate dream date) called home for considerably longer. Curren$y is from New Orleans, where my other best friend went to school (hello, Rory!) and this older hottie hangs his hat. That’s all you need to know about where they’re from.

This week, Wiz released his much-anticipated mixtape Kush and Orange Juice, while Curren$y’s next release (he’s calling it Pilot Talk) is due whenever he’s not attending to his botany. So watch, enjoy, and tell Steven and I who to go out with next!
