Orianthi Turns Up Train’s ‘Hey Soul Sister’ On The Radio: MTV News’ #MusicMonday

Really, you should be listening to music every day, but thanks to Twitter, Monday has become the best day of the week to discover new songs, show some love to the tune currently dominating your iPod playlist and quietly judge the listening habits of your closest friends. Yes, it’s #MusicMonday, one of Twitter’s most enduring trending topics. Hence “MTV News’ #MusicMonday,” a weekly look at the songs your favorite stars are currently crushing on.

This week, former Michael Jackson guitarist and top-shelf axewoman Orianthi crushes on Train’s Top 10 single “Hey Soul Sister.”

Last week, Orianthi Panagaris had a tremendous star-making moment on “American Idol” when she stole the show with her single “According to You.” It was just the latest huge event for Orianthi, who at this time last year was preparing for Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” concert series in London. In the time since Jackson’s untimely death last June, Orianthi has released her smash hit album Believe, became the break out star of “Michael Jackson’s This Is It” and gained the praise of critics and fans alike.

One thing that Believe makes perfectly clear: Orianthi can shred. Despite her ability to tear up the six-string, her current musical favorite runs a little mellower.

“I just bought the new Train record. It’s awesome,” she told MTV News. “’Hey Soul Sister’ is a really cool, upbeat song. It’s a happy song! It just makes me feel happy when I put it on. It’s a cool vibe.”

And Orianthi hasn’t just hopped on the Train bandwagon — she has been a fan since the “Meet Virginia” days. “I love the band,” she said. “I’ve seen them live once, and I own all their records. They’re really cool.”
