Elle has not one but two of the world's biggest pop stars on the cover of their January 2010 issue: Lady Gaga and Britney Spears. And while they aren't photographed together (sadly!), they each are doing their best version of sexy and fierce for their respective covers.
Gaga appears on the newsstand issue of the magazine, where she talks about marriage, babies and death. In Spears' issue (which will get sent out to subscribers), there's no interview, but the singer (who had a highly successful 2009 thanks the hit single "3," and the sold-out everywhere Circus tour) poses in a cage looking dreamily at some mansion's backyard in a blue Valentino goatskin coat with fox fur and marabou-feather trim.
In the cover image, Britney — who just celebrated her 28th birthday this week — once again sits in her gilded cage (this time with her back to the camera, looking mysteriously over her shoulder) wearing the same coat. The look was styled by "The City" star and Elle magazine Creative Director, Joe Zee. It's a more high-fashion Britney then fans are used to seeing, but anyone who went to her Circus tour this year will recognize Spears' growing penchant for feathers (and cages as well, for that matter).
