Tom DeLay, the former Congressman from Texas whose political career was upended by a campaign finance investigation but whose dancing career has only just begun, has not only embraced his role on the upcoming season of "Dancing With the Stars" (which premieres Monday, September 21) but has also gotten on board Twitter to provide updates on his rehearsals and to trash talk to other contestants. The big news that came out of his dispatches yesterday was the fact that he was afraid he had injured himself while rehearsing with partner Cheryl Burke. A few hours later, he tweeted that he was greatly relieved that it wasn't a true injury. "No stress fracture!" he wrote. "It is a pre-stress fracture. I live for another day."
In other Twitter developments that could lead to some real pain for DeLay, his most recent tweet was a taunt at fellow "Dancing With the Stars" contestant and former UFC champion Chuck Liddell. "Hey Twinkle Toes, how's the dancing coming along?" he wrote. "Cant wait for the Hammer and the Iceman to hit the stage." (Liddell's nickname as a fighter was "The Iceman," while DeLay earned the pseudonym "The Hammer" for his regular acts of political retribution on opponents.) Liddell hasn't responded yet, but considering how badly he treated Tito Ortiz after his many promos against him, DeLay may have his work cut out for him.
In other "Dancing With the Stars" news, odds have been set for this season's winner, with Mya leading the way as the favorite (not surprising, especially considering her performances in the videos for "Lady Marmalade" and "My Love is Like ... Wo"). DeLay actually has the longest odds, with Liddell falling somewhere in the middle. On the other hand, if DeLay and Liddell had a grappling match, it would probably end awfully quickly in the Iceman's favor. Be warned, Hammer.
