One of the most anticipated moments from tonight’s MTV Video Music Awards was the premiere of the full trailer for “Michael Jackson’s This Is It,” the film that tells the story of the development of what would have been Michael Jackson’s farewell concerts at London’s O2 Arena. The film, which comes out on October 28 and will run for an extremely limited two-week engagement, will feature never-before-seen footage of Jackson rehearsing, performing and interacting with the army of dancers, singers, musicians and production staff who were working towards making the “This Is It” concerts one of the biggest spectacles in history.
As you can tell from the trailer, “Michael Jackson’s This Is It” will not only feature incredible music, stunning dancing and all types of pyro and special effects, it will also take a look behind the curtain at what drove Michael and get to the center of what inspired him to put these concerts together. The film’s release is bittersweet, as it serves as a reminder that one of the world’s greatest talents is no longer with us.
The premiere of the trailer for “Michael Jackson’s This Is It” wasn’t the only big MJ-related event of the evening. The show opened with a long speech from Madonna, who talked about Jackson’s greatness and an encounter she had with him back in the day. That was followed by an incredible performance from an army of dancers who shook it to some of Jackson’s biggest hits, culminating with Janet Jackson’s entrance. She then sang her half of the “Scream” duet, capping of an emotional and energizing tribute.
