Once a band hits their final note, the show is rarely over. Every band has its own after-show ritual, and we here at MTV News are setting out to capture it in a segment we're calling "Encore." Because let's face it: Some of the best moments happen off stage.
This week we tag along with Swedish dance-rockers the Sounds, who took a break from opening act duties on the No Doubt tour to play a one-off show at the Key Club in West Hollywood, California. It was a treat for the band members and their fans, since it had been quite some time that they played such an intimate venue in Los Angeles. And for a band lead by a fiery frontwoman who is undoubtedly a badass, we were looking forward to what was in store following their performance.
After their invigorating, dance-heavy set, we followed Maja, Felix, Johan, Jesper, and Fredrik downstairs to the Key Club's subterranean bar, where a throng of devoted fans were waiting. It's something the band makes sure to do at every stop on tour: Connect with fans, take photos, and even show off a new tattoo (Felix still had fresh ink in his back care of Kat Von D's needle).
Normally the band would follow the meet-and-greet with a shower, but for the sake of decency they decided to skip that step, so we had to keep the festivities going. The band invited us along to legendary rock spot the Sunset Marquis, where we spotted John Mayer and members of Journey closing down the hotel's tiny bar. As last call was announced around 2 a.m., we grabbed a spot near the pool where the guys (and gal) reflected on the No Doubt tour, their love for L.A. and their new album Crossing The Rubicon.
