The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards are taking shape, as the full list of nominees is out and the group of performers and presenters is constantly expanding. In addition to Green Day, Pink, Taylor Swift and Muse, two new acts were booked for the main stage of the biggest show of the year: Jay-Z and Lady Gaga were both confirmed today. It's the first trip to the VMAs for Gaga, who has had a huge year and is up for a total of nine Moonmen at the ceremony for her clips for "Poker Face" and "Paparazzi." On the other hand, Jigga is no stranger to the VMA stage. Though we still don't know what songs either artist will perform (or who they may be performing with), but it's an interesting head-to-head. One is a wacky fashion-conscious diva and the other is a hard-working hip-hop icon. Who will have the better performance? We decided to hit the pavement and talk to some of the folks around Times Square waiting to get into today's episode of "It's On with Alexa Chung" and found out what their projections were.
The fantastically non-scientific results are in, and they are overwhelming: 70 percent of those we talked to were convinced that Lady Gaga would have the better showing at the VMAs. In fact, a number of people insisted that she would have the greatest performance of anybody that night. Most of the respondents focused on Gaga's showmanship and fashion sense, but the ones who defended Jigga were attached to his experience and skill.
What do you think: Will Lady Gaga blow Jay-Z off the stage at the 2009 Video Music Awards, or will Jigga write himself another chapter in the MTV history books? Leave your thoughts in the comments or head on over to Your.MTV.com to make your voice heard!
