In the 16-year existence of Billboard's Mainstream Top 40 Airplay chart (which measures terrestrial and satellite radio spins), only two artists have ever had three songs from their debuts top the chart. Today, a third was added, as Lady Gaga's "LoveGame" took the top position, joining previous hits "Just Dance" and "Poker Face."
The Mainstream Top 40 Airplay chart (sometimes lorded over by Ryan Seacrest) is something of an obscure chart, but it's still an impressive feat for Gaga. She joins tremendously interesting company in her feat, as the other two artists who have had three debut tunes take the top spot are Avril Lavigne ("Complicated," "Sk8er Boi" and "I'm With You") and Ace of Base ("All That She Wants," "The Sign" and "Don't Turn Around").
Between those two masks, does that mean that Gaga has happened upon a new gimmick? Is she looking to begin a second career as a "Star Trek" castmember or a Mexican wrestler? We love the way Gaga turns fashion on its ear, so we're glad she continues to break records. As long as she's wearing crazy headgear, we're paying attention.
