You'd think that, given the nearly universal love rained down on Kanye West's Graduation and his Glow in the Dark Tour, the dapper Louis Vuitton Don would feel secure in his artistic mojo.
But is 'Ye having a musical personality crisis? A number of blogs, including the L.A. Times' Soundboard, have suggested that West went back to the lab to retool his new single, "Love Lockdown," because fans flamed the first version as having a substandard mix and a weak arrangement. West bounced back just days later and posted a new version on Tuesday with amped -up Taiko drums and a cleaner vocal.
Now comes word from Rilo Kiley singer Jenny Lewis that she participated in a sort of musical focus group for West recently in an airport lounge. Is Kanye really walking up to random strangers in the Platinum Lounge and putting headphones on them? (Maybe that's the real story behind his recent scuffle at LAX.)
Lewis told Entertainment Weekly that she ran into 'Ye a few weeks ago, when she was on her way to the Democratic National Convention. "We missed our flight and had to wait a couple of hours in the lounge," said Lewis. "I noticed Kanye West was waiting for the same flight. He looked over and said, 'Excuse me, would you mind listening to my new track?' And so he put his headphones on my head and I listened to two of his new songs. He had no idea who I was. I guess he was doing research."
We know this album was initially going to be called Good Ass Job, and that he's apparently now changed it to 808's and Heartbreak, but might we suggest an even newer title? Kanye Records, You Decide.
