A party hosted by record producer Jermaine Dupri that was attended by the likes of Usher, Nelly, Sean "Diddy" Combs, actresses Gabrielle Union and Regina King and actor Larenz Tate was disrupted over the weekend by gunfire, which left one man with minor injuries.
According to People.com, shots rang out around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday outside Dreamz ATL, sending guests running for the doors. A member of the club's security team was struck in the arm by one of the bullets; he was treated at a nearby hospital and released, police said.
"I'm sad this incident happened because it interrupted a beautiful and loving party," Dupri said in a statement released to the site. "But I'm happy none of my people or friends got hurt. And the party continues."
According to police, the incident was triggered by irate patrons who felt slighted after they were double-charged by security guards for entry to the club. Several rowdy guests were removed from the venue, and the shots followed soon after. Inside the club, an announcement was made that dismissed the shots as a bottle popping or a speaker problem.
One witness told the site, "Nobody really knew what happened. It was dark in the club. And everyone was trying to get out of the VIP area, but there were so many people [that] no one could really move."
TMZ.com reports that an investigation into the shooting is ongoing, but that it likely won't involve any of Dupri's celebrity guests. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident, and police have yet to identify any suspects.
