Christopher Abbott Explains Why He Left 'Girls'

Christopher AbbottMuch to the disappointment of "Girls" fans everywhere, Christopher Abbott made the decision back in April not to be a part of the third season of Lena Dunham's HBO series "Girls." And the actor has remained pretty tight-lipped about his departure from the series, until now.

Christopher, who played Marnie's on-again-off-again BF Charlie, dished about leaving the series to the New York Times while promoting his role in the play “The Hill Town Plays.”

“The world that Lena wrote was very real, especially in New York,” he explained. “But it wasn’t as relatable for me on a personal level. It’s not that I only like to play roles I know to a T, but there’s something satisfying about playing parts where you really relate to the characters.”

His comment mirrors a statement his rep released when news broke he wouldn’t be back for the third season of the HBO show, which premieres next year. "[Chris] is grateful for the experience of collaborating with Lena, Judd [Apatow], and the entire 'Girls' cast and crew, but right now he’s working on numerous other projects and has decided not to return to the show.”

With Chris working on other projects, his one-time on-screen love interest, Allison Williams, opened up to us about her single status on the upcoming season.

"I was surprised, but I was not at all worried because our writers are so funny, and what they’ve come up with is so much fun and so excellent,” she said. "[She needs] someone who respects her, but she would have to start respecting herself.”

Are you sad Charlie's no more?
