Shailene Woodley Chops Her Locks For 'The Fault In Our Stars,' Donates To Charity

Shailene WoodleyShailene Woodley's transformation into "The Fault in Our Stars" protagonist Hazel Lancaster has officially begun.

Late Friday evening, the actress posted an image of her new, much shorter 'do to Twitter.

Shailene and "TFiOS" author John Green had been hyping the cut for days, using the hash tags #itgrowsback and #hairforhazel to encourage fans to donate their locks to the charity Children With Hair Loss, just like the 21-year-old is doing.

"john green (author of T.F.I.O.S.), wyck godfrey (producer of the ?lm), and i all decided that this could be a beautiful opportunity to rally the troops of mankind and ask for some warriors to help contribute to the cause," Shailene wrote on her Tumblr. "any of you have 8 inches of hair to spare? or maybe know a friend or family member that does? if so, consider JOINING THE #hairforhazel TEAM! i’ve already got my mom committed, and possibly a few friends as well."

The film, which also stars Ansel Elgort, Laura Dern and Sam Trammell, will begin shooting shortly in Pittsburgh. When we spoke with Shailene recently, she revealed how she was preparing (in addition to cutting her long tresses).

"We've done some hospital visits, and we're going to continue doing those," she said of her and Ansel's preparation. "I think the important thing is to get the physicality down of what it means to not be able to breathe and have fluid in your lungs, so we don't have to think about it. Because I think the beauty of this film is that it's a cancer movie that's not about cancer. So if the cancer component takes the lead, then we've done something wrong."
