“Gone Girl” is one of the most-anticipated book-to-film projects in the pipeline, with David Fincher directing the adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s massive bestselling novel. But not only is it going to take some creativity to translate the novel’s diary-style format into a big-screen narrative, this one comes with the added challenge of needing a leading lady with a very particular set of skills. (No spoilers, but it might tell you something that both Charlize Theron and Reese Witherspoon have been people’s best guesses for who might get picked.)
The story follows Nick, the philandering husband to the missing Amy, as he tries to figure out what might have happened to his wife…all amid growing suspicions on the part of police and the public that whatever happened to her, he did it. And with the film slated to begin production within the next few months, the great big question mark of who’ll play whom—and there are still an awful lot of supporting characters to cast—will need to be addressed pretty soon. But ’til then, the debate rages on: Is Rosamund Pike a perfect pick, or will some other actress get gone in this role?
