Deadline reports that Paramount has bought the screen rights to Joelle Charbonneau’s “The Test,” published this week by Houghton Mifflin Books for Children. The story picks up during the aftermath of the Seven Stages War, which has left the Earth a pretty big mess. Civilization’s only hope is to train its teens to lead the rebuilding process; candidates are selected through the rigorous Testing. Readers follow 16-year-old Cia Vale as she seeks to prove her mettle, but on the eve of her departure, her father warns that all is not as it seems. Intrigue! Adding to the drama is dreamy childhood friend Tomas, who offers to be her ally. But is he to be trusted? Is anyone?
The project is obviously in the very early stages of development, with no producer, director or stars attached at this point. But we recommend you come back for a check-up, as Dr. Hollywood Crush will soon have more dystopian developments to report. You can bet on that.
