Jamie Cambell Bower Bemoans His Lost Cookies During Our 'Mortal Instruments' Set Visit

We've still got months to go before the big theatrical release of "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones," but the MTV crew has found a pleasant way to pass the time: by hanging out behind the scenes with the film's cast of Shadowhunters, getting the inside scoop on what it's been like to bring this fantastic story to life. And there's no contest when it comes to the question of who's the blabbiest actor on set: It's Jamie Campbell Bower, who has so many things to say about making this movie.

For starters, he says, we can expect to see lots of the grim, gritty flavor from the books, thanks to the magic touch of director Harald Zwart: "There's a darkness that Harald has brought to the piece, which I think is easily lost in adaptations, particularly of YA novels," Jamie said. "And there's a reality to it as well, which is nice. It's very easy to go into fantasyland too quickly."

And in keeping with that theme, even the romantic plotline has a bite to it, according to Jamie's co-star Lily Collins.

"Jace and Clary—there is a romance there, but I think it's been a lot more fun to play a very old-school back-and-forth bickering," she explained — a dynamic that's right in line with Jamie's own favorite things about his character.

"What I love about him is that he's actually just a bit of a douchebag," said Jamie of Jace, the leather-wearing, demon-slaying bad boy he plays on screen. "He's not like a meathead, he's just sarcastic and rude."
