Happy 27th Birthday, Robert Pattinson!

Break out the beer and puppies: Today is Robert Pattinson’s 27th birthday. Happy birthday, you hottie, you!

Now, just because the sun has set on Rob’s “Twilight”-related duties, that doesn’t mean his 27th year isn’t going to be jam-packed. In fact, as he breaks away from the film franchise that made him a star, it seems directors can’t get their hands on him fast enough. (Or maybe that’s just us? We kid! Maybe…) With that in mind, let’s take a look at Rob’s upcoming year in the cinema.

First up is “The Rover,” which Rob filmed earlier this year in the Australian Outback. The Brit stars as Reynolds, a man who’s desperately searching for his stolen car and the valuable object left inside, in this near-future thriller. A first-look image from the film (featuring Guy Pearce) hit the web back in March, with the film tentatively slated for a 2013 release.

And, well, that’s where the certainty ends, because the actor has no shortage of projects in various stages of pre-production.

The most recently announced is “Cosmopolis” helmer David Cronenberg’s “Maps to the Stars,” described as an “indie ghost story” that takes a look at our celebrity-obsessed culture. Scheduled to begin shooting in July in Toronto and Los Angeles, the film also stars Julianne Moore, John Cusack and Rob’s “Cosmopolis” co-star Sarah Gadon.

On the other end of the fresh spectrum is the long-gestating “Queen of the Desert,” a period piece following English writer Gertrude Bell and her lifelong friend T. E. Lawrence (whom you might know better as Lawrence of Arabia). Naomi Watts will play Gertrude, while Rob will play T.E. But when we caught up with Naomi earlier this year, she wasn’t sure when the project would actually come together.

“We’ll wait and see,” Naomi said of the Werner Herzog-helmed movie. “He’s a director I’m completely in awe of. He’s a wonderful filmmaker and documentarian. It’s a fantastic character, great story. I’m not sure when it’s going to take place yet; there’s been so much travel, as well, and I’ve got little kids, so we’ll see if it happens later this year or next year.”

Also on Rob’s docket: The thriller “Hold On To Me” and “Mission: Blacklist,” in which he portrays Eric Maddox, an interrogator who helped find Saddam Hussein.

Here’s hoping someone gifted Rob with a jumbo wall calendar to chart his busy schedule.
