‘The Selection’ Is Dead; Long Live ‘The Carrie Diaries’

Because this is the week that television is determined to break our hearts by not moving forward with any of the shows from our pilot wishlist, today brought more bad news: Deadline reports that The Selection,” which looked to be getting a second chance after a rewrite and re-casting this year, has sadly been passed over by The CW. Ugh. Not fair! No dystopian romance in “Delirium,” no “Bachelor”-meets-“Hunger-Games” drama in “The Selection”… Hollywood obviously hates us and doesn’t want us to have nice things.

The only upside (and there is one, thank everything!): Deadline also has the scoop that one of our new favorite CW shows—the retro-fabulous “Sex and the City” prequel “The Carrie Diaries“—has been renewed for another season. Which means that while we cry into our ice cream over having been deprived of the chance to see the long-awaited adaptations of these beloved YA books on TV, we will at least have the not-entirely-unenticing image of Austin Butler in pegged jeans to comfort us.

Are you devastated over the death of “The Selection”? Thrilled about “The Carrie Diaries”?
