On the subject of sequels: Today must be the day for encouraging news about the second movies in our most-anticipated, not-yet-released franchises! First there was the report of a screenwriter on board for the second flick in the "Divergent" trilogy, even though the first of the movies won't come out until next year—and now "The Mortal Instruments" adaptation is showing similar ambitions.
According to Deadline, "The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes" has gotten an early go-ahead, with Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower and director Harald Zwart all back on board for the next film in the franchise.
"The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes" will pick up right where "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" leaves off—y'know, not that we know where that is or anything, since "City of Bones" won't hit theaters itself until August 23. (We won't include the spoilery bits from the Deadline article, but beware if you click—and haven't read the book—that a couple of plot points from film No. 1 are given away off the bat.) But what's important is this: We are now more or less guaranteed to have not one, but two, feature-length films in which to enjoy the spectacle of Lily Collins running through an urban fantasy landscape, busting demon head, all in the company of sexy Shadowhunters covered with sweet freakin' rune tattoos. Let's all get excited.
Are you already drooling over the second film in "The Mortal Instruments" series?
