If the first two "Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" trailers left you with a Valentine-shaped hole in your heart, then this brand-new international trailer should—at least partially—smooth things over.
The clip is largely a retread of previously seen footage: Clary (played by Lily Collins) witnessing Jace (played by Jamie Campbell Bower) slaying a demon in Pandemonium, Clary learning her true identity as a Shadowhunter, Alec (played by Kevin Zegers) confronting Jace. But in between, the film's big bad (played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers) finally gets a proper look.
"The world is ours to take," he tells Clary. "Let me show you who you really are, who you were destined to be."
"You don't know the first thing about me," she retorts. (Good girl!)
Of course, fans of Cassandra Clare's best-selling series know her protests don't do much to deter Valentine in his nefarious aims. And while the Nephilim spends a bit more time in the spotlight, so too does the story's main mundane, Simon Lewis. Interestingly, the boy next door's true feelings for Clary are a big part of the novel, yet haven't been on display so far in any of the trailers. Until now.
"I'm the one who's always been there for you, not him," Simon pleads as Clary takes up with bad boy Jace.
Sounds like Simon could use a valentine, too.
"The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" hits theaters August 23.
