“’Glee’ debuted as the first and only successful musical comedy series on television, and more than four years later, it continues to defy genres, break new ground and have a significant impact on popular culture,” Fox chairman Kevin Reilly said. “Week in and week out, Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, Ian Brennan, Dante DiLoreto and the entire ’Glee’ team deliver a series that not only delights and surprises fans, but also inspires them to talk about, share, debate and engage with the show—and I’m absolutely thrilled to have them on board for another two seasons.”
The series underwent a major metamorphosis this season as its core class graduated, flocking to all corners of the country and making way for a brand-new crop of students. (Though, as any Gleek can attest, Rachel, Finn and Kurt never stay away from Lima, Ohio, for long…)
It will be interesting to see how the series fares as it progresses into seasons five and six. The split-city format posed a major challenge for the writing staff—one I’m not entirely sure they’re acing. (How many more catastrophes can happen necessitating the alumni return home?) That being said, we’ll continue showing up to class…for now.
