While Marnie was never very good at making a clean break from Charlie on "Girls," it seems that series creator Lena Dunham and Christopher Abbott, who plays Charlie, are having an easier time parting ways. The New York Post reports that the actor has left the series.
"[Chris] is grateful for the experience of collaborating with Lena, Judd [Apatow], and the entire 'Girls' cast and crew, but right now he’s working on numerous other projects and has decided not to return to the show," his rep told Page Six.
Sources added that Lena and Christopher weren’t getting along on set.
The news comes at a surprising time in Charlie's arc, as he and Marnie finally seemed poised to make it work after two seasons of relationship strife. No word on how his exit will be handled on the upcoming season.
And that’s not the only shake-up for season three. Three of the series' writers will not return. Lena has decided to move the writers' room to NYC (where the show takes place), and Lesley Arfin, Deborah Schoeneman and Steve Rubinshteyn are L.A.-based and won’t be moving.
