Catherine Hardwicke To Helm 'The Age Of Miracles' Adaptation

The Age of Miracles"Twilight" director Catherine Hardwicke will be hitting the books once again.

Deadline reports that the auteur has signed on to direct the big-screen adaptation of Karen Thompson Walker's 2012 novel "The Age of Miracles."

The story follows 11-year-old Julia and her family as they awake one morning to discover the rotation of the Earth has inexplicably slowed—causing all sorts of bizarre phenomena and, ultimately, leaving the planet's fate uncertain. But who has time to worry about the apocalypse when there are everyday concerns like first loves, failing marriages and kooky grandparents to contend with?

Catherine will direct the script penned by "Hanna" writer Seth Lochhead—and it's just one of a number of projects on her plate, which already includes "Plush" (in post-production) and the CBS pilot "Reckless." It should be noted that both, oddly enough, feature "Twilight" actor Cam Gigandet. Is there a place for him in "The Age of Miracles"?
