'The Selection' Adds A Surprise Sibling

Here's a royal decree we hadn't expected: "The Selection" pilot has cast British actor Ben Aldridge in the role of Prince Maxon's little brother, Prince Rafe, according to a report from Deadline.

Why is this news so surprising? Well, because in Kiera Cass' dystopian novel, upon which The CW series is based, Prince Maxon is an only child. This addition is the first major delineation from the source material we've seen thus far, and we're curious how this little brother—who, according to Deadline, "loves his country and takes his leadership role seriously...but does have a secret"—shakes things up at the palace.

"The Selection"—the near-future's answer to "The Bachelor"—centers around teen America Singer (played by Yael Grobglas), who along with 34 other girls, finds herself competing for Prince Maxon's heart and the title of Princess of Illea. With Ben rounding out the regular cast, filming on the revamped pilot should begin soon.

What do you think of the addition of a brother for Maxon? Does Ben look royal enough to you? Tell us in the comments and on Twitter!
