If you’ve been waiting with breathless anticipation for the release of “Unravel Me,” the long-awaited sequel to Tahereh Mafi’s “Shatter Me,” then you…are probably not reading this right now? Because today is the day that “Unravel Me” hits shelves, and if you’re an avid reader of this dystopian series about a girl with a lethal touch, then there’s no reason why you’d be doing anything but devouring the next installment.
Which is too bad for you! Because while you do that, we’ve got this weird, wild, EXCLUSIVE interview with Tahereh Mafi to share—in which the author wanders through an abandoned building, wears a boss pink hijab and answers questions about her work whilst making Sharpie-marker graffiti on the walls.
Tahereh is a mysterious figure, often speculated about but rarely seen—sort of like the Loch Ness Monster, only smaller and more articulate. But with fellow author Ransom Riggs behind the camera, she made this rare appearance to discuss the sequel to “Shatter Me,” confess her favorite part of the writer’s lifestyle and answer important questions about whether she’d like to live in the world of her books (unlikely) and how she feels about the future of humanity (cautiously optimistic). And even if you’re already deep in the hidden environs of Omega Point, where heroine Juliette has escaped to build a life free from the evil government that wants to use her as a weapon, you should really make time to pause, click and watch the author plant a happy-face flag in the frigid winter desert…which is, amazingly, an actual event that takes place during this video and not a euphemism for anything.
What do you think of Tahereh’s interview?
