Kate Winslet Eyes Role In ‘Divergent’

Here’s a casting rumor we’d hop a speeding locomotive to make come true: Kate Winslet is in talks to join the big-screen adaptation of Veronica Roth’s “Divergent,” according to Variety!

Curiously, the report does not indicate which role the Oscar-winning actress is eyeing. Some theories: It could be the part of Tris’ mom, Natalie, who proves pivotal in the story’s final pages. Or antagonist Jeanine Matthews, the Erudite leader who abuses her position. Or (and in our opinion, least likely) tattoo artist/test administrator Tori.

If you’ve been following casting announcements, you know that “Secret Life of the American Teenager” star Shailene Woodley has been tapped to play protagonist Tris in the dystopian thriller, while the search continues for her love interest Four. A number of candidates, including Lucas Till, Alexander Pettyfer and Jeremy Irvine have read for the role, but according to Variety’s sources, Summit Entertainment may “go older after not finding its guy with the latest readings.”

“Divergent” is slated for a March 21, 2014, release.
