If you like high-class cinema, red-carpet fashion and little golden men, then today marks the start of your favorite time of year: Oscar season! The biggest of all the big-deal movie awards are off and running this morning, with the long-awaited list of nominees finally made public. And while there's all the usual love for Hollywood's elder statesmen, a handful of our favorite young up-and-comers have snagged at least a few of those all-important spots on the list of the creme de la creme. Who are we rooting for? Check it:
No surprise here: If you've seen "Les Miserables," you know that Anne Hathaway's incredible performance as Fantine (including a rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream" that'll rip your heart out by its roots and shred it into tiny bloody bits) makes her a highly deserving frontrunner for Best Supporting Actress.
She really is the Girl on Fire, y'all: At the age of 22, Jennifer Lawrence now has two Best Actress Oscar nominations under her belt, making the list this year for her role in "Silver Linings Playbook."
And speaking of "Silver Linings Playbook"...
The soulful comedy scored a Best Picture nomination, plus another nod to Bradley Cooper for Best Actor.
Also, from the Style Files:
Most of our best-loved films from this year were more pop than culture—not exactly the dark or dramatic fare that makes for a Best Picture nom—but the Costume Design category is full of favorites! "Snow White and the Huntsman," "Mirror Mirror," "Les Miserables" and "Anna Karenina" all got love from the Academy for their wonderful wardrobes.
