As twilight falls on 2012 (you’ll see where we’re going with this in a sec), we can’t help but revisit the final “Twilight Saga” film, “Breaking Dawn – Part 2.” After all, it was a pretty epic conclusion, and we’ll admit the film wouldn’t really be the same without its well-crafted soundtrack.
So, when Reeve Carney stopped by to chat about starring in Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble” music video, we also got the musician/actor to reflect on helping close out the saga with his soundtrack tune, “New For You.”
“That was so great. It was amazing. I’m just honored. I’ve always been a fan of the films and the soundtracks, and so the chance to be a part of that grand heritage of ‘Twilight,’ or whatever you want to call it, it was an honor,” he said. “And I actually—Bill Condon, the director, allowed me to preview a scene that I wrote the music [for]. So that was really great. That helped a lot cause it allowed me to try and get into the hearts of the characters. So I wrote the song specifically for the film. I saw the love scene. It was so nice they let me see it.”
Once he saw the pivotal “Breaking Dawn – Part 2” scene, Reeve went right to work cooking up all aspects of the track.
“That’s kind of what inspired everything about the song, the meter, the rhythm and the key, everything, the lyrics…obviously,” he explained.
In addition to giving fans some new music on the soundtrack, Reeve has also been busy working on new music out of his pad in NYC. But, he doesn’t think it will sound much like “New For You.”
“Not so much. I did that myself. I’ve since learned more, and I’ve got some different things that I’m working with,” he said. “And, yeah, I’d say that’s more of a haunting ballad than anything else I’m gonna have. There might be one song like that, but definitely this thing’s going to definitely be a bit more driving. But I don’t know. I’m just trying to do my best and I hope that people like it.”
