Cassandra Clare Conjuring ‘Mortal Instruments’ Spin-Off With A Little Help From Friends

Despite glittering in both of Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunter series, “The Mortal Instruments” and “The Infernal Devices,” Brooklyn’s High Warlock Magnus Bane remains a highly in-demand character. And if you count yourself among the many dreaming of the indelible immortal, you’re in luck! Magical Magnus is set to star in his own spin-off series!

Cassandra, in collaboration with author friends Maureen Johnson (“The Name of the Star”) and Sarah Rees Brennan (“Unspoken”), is penning a short story cycle called “The Bane Chronicles.” Starting in February, a new installment will be released via ebook each month leading up to the theatrical debut of “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.” A single print edition will follow sometime in 2014.

As to what “The Bane Chronicles” will cover, it sounds like a lot! Sarah took to Tumblr to shed a bit of light on the project:

“Have you ever wondered about Magnus’s past loves and lies? Magnus and Alec’s first date? How Magnus and Camille got together? What happened in Peru? Starting in February 2013, in the run-up to City of Handsome Magnus: the Movie (Also Starring Some Other People Who Are Pretty Good-Looking) we will put out a Magnus Short Story every month,” she wrote.

Just the thing to temper our eight-month wait until Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, and, of course, Godfrey Gao, charm us on the big screen!
