Fluffy tulle skirts, urban settings and a nice little splash of city grime: sounds familiar, right? Well, it should; if you've ever been a "Sex and the City" fan, these bits from the opening credits of the show should be forever embedded in your brain (along with that perky little earworm of a theme song.) And while we know that the long-awaited prequel to "SATC," "The Carrie Diaries," can't exactly follow in the raunchy naked footsteps of the original—not least because the characters are all in high school—it's nice to see that the latest piece of promo material rings a few bells. Just look at the new poster for the show, and tell us it's not an homage.
Tulle skirt? Check. Urban setting? Check. Grime? Ewwww, yes. (We keep forgetting how gross the subway actually was back in the 1980s.) And how much do you want to bet that the boombox to young Miss Bradshaw's left is playing a synth version of that catchy riff from the HBO show? Echoes of the original, for sure! And AnnaSophia Robb looks so pretty with her wild, curly Carrie-hair, too. Our only complaint? That the real Carrie Bradshaw would never allow the title to cover up her shoes like that...unless, of course, this all takes place before the dawning of her notorious footwear addiction.
"The Carrie Diaries" premieres January 14 on The CW.
