'City Of Bones' Director: 'Lily Is Absolutely Perfect As Clary Fray'

If there's one thing we learned about "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" director Harald Zwart during his stop at the MTV News offices, it's that he's a bit of a romantic, having cited the film's central love story as one of the major reasons he signed on. But Harald was also quick to credit star Lily Collins, who had already been brought on under previous director Scott Stewart.

"When I came on board, Lily was already cast, and I think she was perfect," Harald enthused. "That's part of the reason I agreed to do the project. I think Lily is absolutely perfect as Clary Fray. You'll see when you see the movie. She's adorable, and she's very tough, and she plays it very realistically. She has a huge range of emotions. And then we got Jamie Campbell Bower on board, and one thing came after another. It's a fantastic cast. I'm really happy about that."

Speaking of Jamie Campbell Bower, the Brit's casting raised plenty of eyebrows among fans, many of whom had been pining after Alex Pettyfer, who had originally been offered the role. But Harald said not to worry: Jamie will win your heart just like his snarky Shadowhunter alter ego did.

"I think the fans are going to be very surprised," Harald said. "Once you've seen him be Jace, there is no other option. He's absolutely fantastic as Jace. He has the angelic look and dry sense of humor, which Jace also has in the book. I think people will adopt him immediately and just be very happy with him."
