Jonny Weston is about to set hearts on fire, or perhaps afloat, this week when his surfing flick "Chasing Mavericks" hits theaters. Still a relative newcomer, Jonny just might become a household name once he surfs his way into your local cineplex and into Hump Day Hottie status.
Check out this dreamy photo of Jonny and keep reading for more details about him!
Vital stats: The 23-year-old grew up in South Carolina before trying out college life at the University of Southern California. It was there he caught the acting bug before heading off to New York City and then back to La La Land to pursue his big screen dreams.
Another dream comes true this week, now that Jonny is our hunk du jour. And he even knows how he's going to celebrate, telling Hollywood Crush, "I’m gonna make some stickers!"
Where you might have already seen him: He’s nabbed roles in indie films like “Sugar,” “John Dies at the End,” “Under the Bed” and “Cherry,” alongside James Franco.
Why you should take notice of him now: This week he will play real-life surfer, Jay Moriarty, in "Chasing Mavericks," alongside Gerard Butler. The famed surfer, along with his pal, Frosty (Gerard), formed a bond and kinship over their love of the ocean. Unfortunately, Jay tragically passed away in 2001 at the age of 22 in an apparent diving accident, but he had already become the stuff of legend. The role gave Jonny the chance to flex some of his own surfing skills.
"Yeah it’s hard to remember to have fun [when you’re surfing for a film]. I paid a lot of attention to Jay’s style, and that’s one of the things that [Jay’s pal and surfboard shaper] Bob Pearson helped me out with a lot. He told me a lot about his style. I definitely altered my style as much as I could," he said. "He was more of an all-around kind of surfer. His style was a lot more powerful and a lot more reckless than mine. So, I had to adjust my outlook on surfing really more than on lifestyle."
Until next week, when we choose another Hump Day Hottie, you can salute Jonny by gawking the photo above!
