The duo follow previous host, comedian Ricky Gervais, who served as master of ceremony for two years. Obviously, the women will bring a decidedly different approach to hosting duties, and we couldn’t be more excited to see it. In celebration of their honor, and as a potential preview of what’s to come, we’re counting down our five favorite Tina-Amy moments. Check out our list after the jump and sound off with your own choices in the comments!
5. Tina, Amy and all the funny Emmys ladies
A group effort to be sure, though no less hilarious. For the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy category at 2011’s Emmy Awards, the nominees (including Tina, Martha Plimpton, Melissa McCarthy, Amy, Edie Falco and Laura Linney) stormed the stage as each of their names were called and held hands like the world’s wittiest pageant queens. The stunt (which was reportedly organized by the “Parks and Recreation” star) earned a much-deserved standing ovation from the crowd. Amy pulled off a similar gag at this year’s Emmys with winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus, offering a glimpse of the Globes shenanigans to come.
4. Amy is Tina’s “Baby Mama”
That’s so fetch! The pair teamed up again on the big-screen (following 2004’s “Mean Girls”) for this 2008 comedy in which Amy played surrogate to Tina’s infertile working woman. And boy did they birth plenty of laughs as the quintessential odd couple.
3. Amy is Tina, er, Liz Lemon
During “30 Rock”’s live episode in 2012, Amy played the teenage version of Tina’s Liz Lemon, flaunting a nerdy nightgown and stripped gym socks as she watched a telethon in her parents’ basement on prom night. “I’m going to lose my virginity in nine years!” Amy/Liz exclaimed between heaping mouthfuls of cheesesteak.
2. A cautionary message for Lindsay Lohan
In an oddly prescient sketch, Weekend Update co-hosts Tina and Amy welcomed “mentee” and “Mean Girls” co-star Lindsay Lohan behind the desk in 2005 to express their concerns over the starlet’s partying ways and “Mischa Barton arms.” Seven years later, we can’t help but wonder whatever happened to the Teen Mentoring Program of America.
1. Sarah Palin and Hilary Clinton fight sexism
By 2008, Tina had left the sketch comedy show to work full-time on “30 Rock” (itself centered around a fictional sketch comedy show), but the writer-actress returned to the Studio 8H stage to portray her hockey-mom doppelganger, Alaska governor and vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, opposite Amy’s stuffy Senator Hillary Clinton. All together now: “I can see Russia from my house!”
