Woody Harrelson Says New 'Hunger Games' Director Will 'Do Great'

No need to pack your anxiety underwear for that upcoming trip to Panem, "Hunger Games" fans. Uncle Haymitch is here to reassure you that our favorite dystopian drama is in good hands with new "Catching Fire" director Francis Lawrence. Promise.

MTV News caught up with Woody Harrelson at this year's Toronto International Film Festival, where the actor was promoting his upcoming film "Seven Psychopaths," and he had plenty to say about the next big-screen chapter of Suzanne Collins' series, which began shooting earlier this week.

"You know, I like the way Francis is very thorough, very on top of everything. I really feel great," he said. "I loved Gary. I thought Gary did an incredible job with the first one, but I do think Francis is going to do great with this."

It certainly helps that Francis has a bang-up script to work from—one penned by Oscar-winning screenwriter Simon Beaufoy.

"I think that it's a really good script, a really strong script, so I feel good about that," Woody said. "That's the big question mark since there was so little time to get that script together."

Beyond devouring the script (WHICH HE DID DO OKAY JOSH HOROWITZ), the actor's been preparing in other ways, including meeting with a PTSD sufferer to get extra insight into Haymitch's shell-shocked persona.

"Francis had asked me if I had studied PTSD—post-traumatic stress disorder — and I actually did in college. I was a psychology minor. So I met a guy who has PTSD in Maui," Woody said.

He also put in an all-important ask with Francis: Haymitch needs to be boozier. Much boozier.

"I'm going to try to go as far as possible," Woody promised. "You know me. I'll try to take it over the top."

We believe you, man.

"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, will hit theaters November 22, 2013.
