The actress, with slicked-back tresses and cheekbones for miles, covers the September issue of Interview, and inside, she opens up to director Cameron Crowe about working with the sexiest man alive (in our hearts if not in the pages of People magazine) and the immediate kinship the two shared
If you’ve seen the 2011 romantic comedy “Crazy, Stupid, Love,” you know the actors have an easy, engaging chemistry—a connection that gets special play in a pillow talk scene that’s tender and sweet and pretty much everything we’d hope a few hours of pillow talk with Ryan Gosling would be like. And as it turns out, the moment felt so effortless because it mostly was.
“We just talked about our lives in different positions around the room,” Emma recalled. “Most of those things are true—like, I actually won the spelling bee when I was 8 and my dad cried, and I do a Lauren Bacall impression. Ryan really has bought most of those things from infomercials. So we were just laughing at each other and talking. The directors [Glenn Ficarra and John Requa] just gave us a day to hang out.”
Emma will once again star alongside Ryan in the upcoming period drama “Gangster Squad,” which hits theaters in January 2013. In addition to a charismatic on-screen leading man, Emma has found in Ryan a trustworthy sounding board for her sometimes difficult career decisions.
“I’ve asked him to read a couple of scripts,” she revealed. “I just really like hearing his viewpoint because I know that it’s never going to be tainted. He’s very much his own person. It has really just been scripts so far, because I only met him two years ago when we did ’Crazy, Stupid, Love,’ but it was like meeting a member of your team or something. I really like his brain.”
Come to think of it, maybe Ryan Gosling’s brain would make the top of our lust-after list. After all, his, um, package wouldn’t be complete without that sly wit.
