Ready to be infinite? We have your first look at "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" trailer, courtesy of stars Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Ezra Miller who presented the clip at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards pre-show. And for fans of Stephen Chbosky's novel (published by MTV Books), rest easy knowing that this appears to be one faithful adaptation.
"Perks" tells the story of painfully shy high school freshman Charlie (Logan), who starts the school year off a friend-less loner…until he's befriended by outgoing step-siblings Sam (Emma) and Patrick (Ezra).
The trailer opens with Charlie at his desk on the eve of his first day of school, penning a letter to the unknown friend to whom the book's missives are addressed. As we see, Charlie doesn't fare too well at his new school, as he's pushed around by bullies. But things begin to change when he meets his English teacher/mentor played by Paul Rudd and Patrick, whose sarcastic enthusiasm is infectious: "Be aggressive! Passive aggressive!"
From there, we see Charlie attend his first-ever party, watch Sam play Janet in the town's production of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and share a tender moment with his crush in her bedroom. But it's the closing moments of the trailer that should really win the novel's fans over. In a pleasingly full-circle moment, Charlie stands atop the bed of Sam's pick-up truck as it speeds across a bridge with the novel's famous line in voice-over: "And in this moment, I swear we are infinite."
"The Perks of Being a Wallflower," which also stars "Vampire Diaries" actress Nina Dobrev, Dylan McDermott and Kate Walsh, opens September 14.
