Kellan Lutz is on a roll, Crushers. After word came he'd be swinging (shirtless!) from vines as Tarzan, today we learn he and "Vampire Diaries" star Nina Dobrev are in talks to join star Jonathan Daniel Brown in "Kid Cannabis."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will be directed by John Stockwell and is based on a 2005 Rolling Stone article. The piece relayed the story of suburban teens from Idaho who built an entire multimillion-dollar empire on selling marijuana.
Jonathan will play the 18-year-old main character who convinces his friends to smuggle drugs across the Canadian border. The "Twilight" star will play Jonathan's older best friend who initially feeds off the thrill of the illegal act, but soon finds the situation spiraling out of his control. THR reports Nina hasn't finalized her deal yet because of some scheduling issues, but she would play the daughter of one of the biggest pot growers in the area with her eye on Kellan's character.
You might recall that Nina and Kellan have worked together before. In the film "Arena" (previously titled "The Killing Game"), Nina plays Kellan's pregnant wife who dies in a car accident leaving him distraught and the perfect subject for Samuel L. Jackson's, well, killing game.
"Kid Cannabis" will be produced by Gordon Bijelonic, Mia Chang, Bic Tran and Datari Turner with production beginning in July in Canada. THR also notes that the indie film has been in development for a few years now and almost came together starring Chris Marquette and Kellan's "Twilight" co-star Cam Gigandet. We hope there's no animosity between the two hunks now!
