'Hunger Games' Costume Designer Reveals The Effie Outfit You Won't See

Elizabeth BanksDirector Gary Ross already detailed a few of "The Hunger Games" moments that ended up on the cutting room floor, but bits of celluloid aren't the only pieces that will be left behind when the dystopian drama enters the Arena on March 23. MTV News recently caught up with Oscar-nominated costume designer Judianna Makovsky, who revealed which one of District 12 mentor Effie Trinket's (Elizabeth Banks) flamboyant pieces will stay tucked in the closet.

"We actually made one outfit we didn't use, which was in the book, the first time you see [Effie] in District 12," Judianna said. "She has a green outfit with pink hair. We actually made a green outfit, and I'm going, 'I don't know—the palette in District 12—I don't know. I think this other fuchsia one is going to be better, but let's make them both, and we'll see what happens.'"

Once the frock was sewn and ready, Judianna and frequent collaborator Gary came to the same conclusion. "I showed them both to Gary, and he was like, 'Fuchsia.' It worked so much better. It had such a better impact. We were going to save the green one and use it—they were going to write another scene, which they never did. So that one never got used."
