Robert Pattinson’s ‘Bel Ami’ Set For June Release

Mark your calendars! Robert Pattinson’s sexy period piece, “Bel Ami,” has an official release date. The film will open stateside on June 8 and should be able to satiate Pattinson fans who can’t wait to sink their teeth into the final “Breaking Dawn” flick opening later this year in November.

“’Bel Ami’ is a well-crafted, appealing film with a terrific ensemble cast,” Eamonn Bowles, president of Magnolia, the film division releasing the flick, said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter

Based on the Guy de Maupassant novel, the film follows a manipulative young man, Georges, who romances various women in 19th century Paris. The film also stars a bevy of lovely ladies including Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Christina Ricci.

Georges also happens to be a newspaper man who makes money writing about gossip, a nuance Robert found interesting to explore given that he often makes the front page of many supermarket tabloids.

“Something that was written in…1885, for it to be the exact same situation as it is now, where you have a template article and you just replace the name and it could be about anybody, I thought that was really funny. But he’s not really a journalist… It’s basically like being a reality TV star now,” he said at a press conference last month. “It was one of the jobs where you could kind of [get ahead]; he found a loophole in life where he could get money and a reputation by basically doing nothing. It was fun; it was interesting.”
