‘Beautiful Creatures’ Finds Its Missing Link In Thomas Mann

We rarely give consistent ups to movie studios for their casting decisions (remember all “The Hunger Games” hoopla?), but Alcon Entertainment is proving to be the exception to the rule. The latest spot-on selection for their big-screen adaptation of “Beautiful Creatures“? Thomas Mann is in negotiations to play sidekick Link, according to Variety.

Fans of Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl’s source material know Link (short for Wesley Jefferson Lincoln) as the music-loving, Beater-driving best friend of protagonist Ethan Wate. Link also finds himself answering dark caster Ridley’s siren song, which leads to interesting consequences for the teen.

Link’s real-life alter ego, Thomas, first gained attention starring opposite Emma Roberts in the 2010 comedy “It’s Kind of a Funny Story,” and he’s currently partying it up at the cineplex in the found-footage-fest “Project X.” The 20-year-old joins a growing cast of up-and-comers and veterans, which already includes Viola Davis as Amma, Alice Englert as Lena, Jack O’Connell as Ethan, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Lincoln/Sarafine and Emmy Rossum as Ridley.

Which casting announcement will be next? We can only hope Alcon drops deets on who they’ve conjured up to play Lena’s mysterious uncle Macon Ravenwood. (Could Donald Sutherland play both President Snow and Macon Ravenwood? Pretty please?)

“Beautiful Creatures” is slated for a February 1, 2013, release.
